As a part of AKCSSC’20 Pre-Event in College of Engineering Trivandrum, IEEE Computer Society of CET and DSC CET hosted #AppChallenge to encourage participants to build creative and impactful apps. The contest was a post event for the App Development Workshop and UI/UX Bootcamp hosted by IEEE Computer Society CET. We consider this as an opportunity for the participants to grow and deploy the knowledge that was assimilated, and this acts as a platform to boost their understanding of their advancement.
The theme for the challenge was ‘Quarantine Apps’ - Apps that can make quarantine more fun - be it health, education, socialising or games. Participants had to submit the GitHub repo for their app with a descriptive readme - including its functions and how to install and run the app. There were 2 prize categories - Design award for best design and Innovation Award for best application.
The judging for the event was done by a unique and wondrous crew. The innovation award was judged by a team which consisted of the Product Manager at TGH Technologies Pvt Ltd and a renowned competitive coder who was the Lead Application Developer of Quietload Private Ltd. The innovation award was judged by the Core Team members of DSC, they have taken several sessions and tutored students across the globe in various technical fields.
We deployed a communication and outreach platform for all participants. This was hosted on Whatsapp, we created a group which would act as a point of contact for the participants, mentors and judges. The winners were rewarded with goodies and schwags that would help motivate them to participate in more events like this.
