Power and Energy Society of IEEE SB CET conducted a half day visit to The Energy Management Centre, Chavadimukku, a nine time National Energy Conservation Award winning institution.
The LEED IGBC GOLD rated green building was explored and the aspects of the building that makes the conservation of energy possible like exploitation of sunlight and wind direction to provide maximum natural light and ventilation were analysed. “The 60 kW grid connected solar power plant from which 30 kW is given to the grid, 10 kW for a Project collaborating with C-DAC and 20 kW for powering the whole 43,000 sq. ft. building makes the building an energy positive structure” says Mr. Dinesh Kumar.A.N, the director of EMC, who showed the students around the office. Various other demonstrations like LED Calibration using a 1.5 crore worth LED sphere and the low power consumption of Brushless DC (BLDC) fans were given and the whole experience was both enlightening and enthralling to the participants.
