IEEE Computer Society of CET, IEEE SB CET Special Interest Group in AI and Developer Students Club CET hosted a webinar by Abhijith Asok (Data Scientist at Microsoft & Harvard Alum) on his journey and experiences in the field of data science.

The session was an hour and 15 minutes long and commenced at 8:30 P.M. Mr. Ashok is currently working in Microsoft as a Data Scientist and has done his Masters in Health Data Science from Harvard University. He completed his Dual Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with Math from BITS Pilani Goa campus. He had also interned and worked with many companies prior to joining Microsoft, few of which includes Mount Sinai Health Systems and Mu Sigma.

During the session Mr. Ashok outlined the various hidden intricacies within the Data Science industry. He spoke about the importance of domain knowledge by taking the example of the Health industry. He then outlined the differences between Research and Industrial career paths, talked about the importance of bettering one's coding practices and also how imperative it is to keep moving with the rapid changes in technology especially in the field of Data Science. He then spoke about how sensitive data is handled within the industry and the importance of it, moving on to inclusion and diversity in projects. He concluded his presentation by talking about work-life balance and the importance of taking care of one's mental health to prevent burnouts. The session was concluded at 9:45 with a question-answer segment.
